Websites and applications, billed two ways
Everything below is work I do myself, for clients in South Africa, priced and invoiced in South African Rand (ZAR). The two billing models are set out in full further down, because which one you pick changes what you own at the end.
A site that loads fast and gets found
Built as real code rather than assembled in a page builder, which is why these load quickly, score well, and can be extended later without starting again. Mobile first, because that is how most South African traffic arrives.
- Marketing and brochure sites
- Landing pages and campaign pages
- Multi-page sites with a content structure you can extend
- Contact and enquiry forms wired to your inbox
- Search-engine basics: metadata, sitemap, structured data, clean URLs
- Analytics, if you want it
- Mobile-first layouts tested at phone, tablet and desktop width
- Accessibility basics: keyboard navigation, focus states, contrast
Software your business runs on
The systems behind the website. Web-based, so staff use them on whatever device they already have, and built to be correct about money, stock and permissions rather than merely impressive in a demo.
- Customer-facing ordering and account portals
- Internal tools: stock, scheduling, job tracking, approvals
- Admin dashboards and reporting with CSV or PDF export
- Multi-user systems with roles and permissions
- Multi-tenant platforms where separate businesses share one system
- Payment gateway integration, including Payfast
- WhatsApp Business Platform messaging
- Email sending, notifications and scheduled jobs
- Data migration out of spreadsheets or an older system
Monthly subscription or once-off build
Either model can deliver the same website or the same application. The difference is who carries the software afterwards, and what you own.
Recurring, cancel with notice
- What you pay for
- A monthly fee in ZAR, charged in advance, that covers hosting, maintenance, security updates, backups, monitoring and an agreed amount of ongoing work each month.
- When it starts
- New subscriptions begin with a 14-day free trial. Billing starts the day the trial ends unless you cancel inside it. Access is provisioned within 2 business days of the first payment clearing.
- What you're licensed to do
- You have a licence to use the software for as long as the subscription is current. The code remains mine. If you later want to own it outright, ask and I'll quote a buy-out.
- Cancelling
- Month-to-month, no minimum term, 30 days' notice in writing. Your data is exported to you on request and kept for 30 days after the final billing period before deletion.
Fixed scope, fixed price, yours
- What you pay for
- A fixed fee in ZAR against a written scope. 50% on acceptance of the quote, the balance on delivery.
- When it starts
- Work begins within 5 business days of the deposit clearing, unless we've agreed a later start. The quote carries the delivery estimate.
- What you end up owning
- Full ownership of the delivered software, including source code, database schema and deployment documentation, transferring to you when the final invoice is paid. Third-party services the software depends on stay on their own licences.
- Changes and afterwards
- Anything outside the written scope is quoted separately before it's built, never added silently to the invoice. After handover you can run it yourself, or put a support retainer in place.
The terms and conditions, refund and cancellation policy and delivery and fulfilment policy set all of this out in binding detail. Read them before you pay anything.
What I don’t do
Worth saying plainly, so nobody pays for a conversation that was never going to work out.
Logo design and brand identity work - I'll build to a brand, but I'm not a brand designer
Native iOS or Android apps submitted to the app stores. I build web applications that install to a phone's home screen instead
Paid advertising, social media management or copywriting as a service
Taking over a codebase I haven't seen, sight unseen - that needs a paid review first
